Why I Study New Media

New Media has been a major I have recently gained interest in because it encompasses all of the digital media skills I have previously acquired over the years.

I have previously graduated Purchase with a painting degree in Spring of 2022. I also took a summer program at Cooper Union, prior to my collegiate career, where I first learned animation and photography. These previous experiences I had exploring the different avenues definitely prepared me to take on this new major I am currently studying. Since my return to Purchase in the Fall of 2025, I have taken classes in graphic design, animation, film, and programming, and I hope to use the skills that I learned to establish my own career.

I believe that New Media allows me to explore and experiment using modern technology, which can put me at an advantage for landing jobs, and developing my own self-sufficiency in terms of having a career. To me, taking New Media as my major is important because it creates an opportunity for me to connect with people digitally and experience a new, more contemporary outlet of creativity.
